Call for Artistic Residencies in the DECORATOR project launched

Creative people wanted to rethink the Danube region!

13.10.2025

How can we shape the transformation of our built environment in a creative, sustainable and collaborative way? This question is at the heart of the EU project DECORATOR, which sees the Danube region as a real laboratory for circular transformation - and is now inviting artists, architects, designers and interdisciplinary teams to take part in artistic residencies.

Between October 2025 and January 2026, artistic-research projects will be created in Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Croatia that show how aesthetic, social and ecological approaches can work together to open up new perspectives for sustainable building and living.

The call is aimed at anyone who wants to use creative means to shape future spaces - from architecture and design to art and crafts to new forms of participatory urban and spatial development.

Four locations - four challenges - many ideas

The residences are organized by the regional DECORATOR partners and are dedicated to very different aspects of building and living together:

University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia)
Material, aesthetic and functional improvement of the UNG premises in Rožna Dolina
→ How can a university building from the 1970s become an open, sustainable campus for art, research and community?

Creative Region Linz & Upper Austria (Austria)
The sustainable re-use of the Ebensee former Railway Station
→ What happens when a disused railroad station becomes the heart of a place again - as a meeting place, a space of remembrance and a creative space of opportunity?

Bayern Innovativ & Technische Hochschule Rosenheim (Germany)
The Students' Sawmill of the University Campus in Rosenheim
→ How can a building built by students be revitalized - as a place for participatory art, sustainability and creative experiments?

Croatian Wood Cluster (Croatia)
Hack the Wall - Reimagining Boundaries of Living and Building
→ How can circular building materials be rethought? We are looking for creative teams to develop new building forms using wood, straw and a lot of experimentation.

Who can apply?

We are looking for creative professionals, artists and designers who work with innovative, interdisciplinary approaches and are keen to put the principles of the New European Bauhaus - sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion - into practice.

Promotion & procedure

The residencies are endowed with 5,000 to 9,000 euros.
Applications are possible until October 31, 2025 (12:00 noon) by e-mail to andrej.sitar(at)ung.si.
