As part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the Chair of Manufacturing Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) is engaged in research and teaching in the future-oriented field of computer-aided production systems.

Factory of the future

The overarching objective is to network all sub-functions of a factory into a computer-integrated overall concept. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke, chair since 2009, concentrates research on innovative manufacturing processes for mechatronic products.

The development work covers the complete process chain, which begins with the packaging of electronic components, finds a focus in the assembly of electronic modules (printing, mounting, soldering, testing), fully encompasses the manufacturing processes for electrical drives (esp.
