Thomas von der Grün studied electrical engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, specializing in communications engineering and high-frequency technology. Since 1990, he has been working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, where he heads the Precise Localization and Analytics department in Nuremberg with currently 55 scientists. He coordinates the localization business unit at Fraunhofer IIS in the area of localization and networks. Mr. von der Grün has been working with radio-based localization systems for more than 15 years. This includes tracking and analysis systems for the sports market, for which he received the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize in 2019. With his team, he contributes to 5G standardization and is responsible for several research, development and application projects in the field of 5G mobile communications. The first projects to research 6G mobile communications have already been launched.
