Prof. Bengler's (*1966) research is focused on the area of so-called "micro ergonomics" on questions of human-machine interaction, in particular the area of driver assistance, software ergonomics and cooperation between humans and robots. For example, he is investigating the influence of additional tasks on driving performance and the design of the driver's workplace for the vehicle of the future with regard to demographic change. His research includes both anthropometric and cognitive issues.

Prof. Bengler studied psychology at the University of Regensburg and completed his doctorate there in 1995 in cooperation with the BMW Group on the design of navigation information for the driver. He then led the "Human-Machine Interaction" team at BMW Research & Technology and the associated usability laboratory. Since 2009, he has headed the Chair of Ergonomics at the Technical University of Munich.
