Prof. Alin Albu-Schäffer has been Director of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) since 2012. He is also a professor at the Technical University of Munich, where he heads the Chair of "Sensor-based Robotic Systems and Intelligent Assistance Systems" at the Faculty of Computer Science. His research areas include robotic assistance in space travel, industrial production, medicine and healthcare, as well as personal assistance systems. Prof. Alin Albu-Schäffer studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Timisoara, Romania, and received his doctorate from TUM in 2002. He has received numerous awards in the field of robotics, including the IEEE King-Sun Fu Best Paper Award of the Transactions on Robotics in 2012 and 2014, awards for publications in the leading robotics journals and conferences, and the DLR Science Award.
