EN Municipal water management includes energy-efficient wastewater handling, stormwater management and drainage systems, advanced water treatment, membrane filtration, water recycling, and water quality. Traditionally, the focus has been on systems for the treatment/distribution of drinking water and the discharge/treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. Today, in-depth knowledge of physical, chemical and biochemical processes is a prerequisite for process optimization. Complex tasks require intensive basic research in addition to practical orientation. An interdisciplinary team works at the chair with state-of-the-art equipment on current topics such as: Elucidation of the transport and reaction mechanisms of traditional as well as novel microbial and chemical contaminants, development of innovative, energy-efficient treatment systems, simulation and process control.

EN The Chair of Urban Water Systems Engineering is active in the fields of energy-efficient wastewater treatment, stormwater management and drainage systems, advanced water treatment processes, membrane filtration, water recycling and water quality. Our research activities address water supply and treatment, conveyance systems and treatment processes for municipal and industrial wastewater. In order to further optimize and to develop new processes, a fundamental knowledge of underlying physical, chemical and biochemical processes is needed. These challenges require fundamental as well as applied research. Our interdisciplinary team is engaged in understanding the fate and transport of emerging microbial and chemical contaminants, the development of novel, energy-efficient treatment processes, as well as process modeling and process control.
