The Saxon Textile Research Institute e.V. (STFI) carries out application-oriented process- and product-related research and development tasks. The competences are bundled in the Innovation Center Technical Textiles: Nonwovens/Films, Woven/Woven Fabrics, Finishing/Ecology, Textile Recycling/Plant Fibers, Technical Nets/Strands, and Textile Materials Research. In the Nonwovens Competence Center, the main research areas for the nonwovens sector are combined on an interdisciplinary basis. Furthermore, the STFI is accredited as a testing laboratory for textiles as well as a testing laboratory and certification body for personal protective equipment (PPE). The Institute for Technical Textiles (ITT) GmbH, which is affiliated with the STFI, is accredited as a monitoring and certification body for geosynthetics. The field of activity of the Finishing/Ecology Department includes the technological stages of pretreatment, bleaching, dyeing, chemical finishing, coating, laminating as well as textile chemical testing. Research and development focus on environmentally friendly processes and products in the following key areas of work: chemical and physical textile finishing, coating and lamination, ecology, textile chemical testing.

The STFI is a non-profit research institution in the Free State of Saxony, committed to the long-standing traditions of Saxon textile research. Our process- and product-related R&D work reflects classical textile technologies as well as innovative, unconventional solutions for the broadest range of applications.
