Overview

The Department of Molecular Diagnostics at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology focuses on non- and minimally invasive diagnostics. We also support preclinical developments and offer contract research.
Our core competencies include biomarker and hardware development. This ranges from sample preparation, multi-omics analysis (including bioinformatics), assay development and marker validation to biosensor and point-of-care diagnostics development.

Products & Services

Research & Development:

  • Non- & minimally invasive diagnostics: focus on new methods for disease detection.
  • Preclinical development: Support and implementation of preclinical studies.
  • Contract research: Individual research services for academic and industrial partners.
  • Biomarker development & validation: Definition and confirmation of biomarkers for early detection.
  • Hardware development: Design and realization of diagnostic devices.

Analytics & Technologies:

  • Multi-omics analyses: genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics (exosomal miRNA), proteomics, immunomics,
  • Assay development: design, optimization of DNA, RNA, protein-based high-multiplex assays including sample processing
  • Bioinformatics: Data analysis and interpretation of multi-omics and multiplex data together with clinical data and biostatistics.
  • Sample preparation: Efficient methods for the preparation of clinical samples.
  • Liquid biopsy tests for cell-free nucleic acids (cfDNA, cfRNA, exosomal miRNA)
  • Proteomics analyses with Olink technology
  • Immunomics - antibody profiling - the world's most comprehensive portfolio (AIT proteinarrays, CDI, Sengenics and infinityBio) for screening and further validation using micro and/or bead arrays
  • DNA nanotechnology: development of new in-vitro and in-silico technologies
  • Surface modification: adaptation of sensors and microfluidics.

Diagnostic solutions:

  • Biosensor development: design of highly sensitive, miniaturized sensors.
  • Point-of-care solutions: Development of comprehensive systems for point-of-care diagnostics (incl. microfluidics, process control, data analysis).
  • Assay integration: Development and integration of sample preparation and assays into existing diagnostic platforms.
  • Infection diagnostics: New, efficient solutions for sensitive detection and resistance detection (pandemic peparedness, epidemic protection, resilient systems...)

These services are aimed at developing and implementing innovative diagnostic solutions for healthcare.
