Funding conditions

Support is provided for projects for the research and development of innovative technologies, processes and knowledge-based services in the field of medical technology that can no longer be classified as basic research. In principle, only research and development activities with a technical or scientific background are eligible for support.

Research teams from Bavarian universities, university hospitals and non-university research institutions who are looking to set up a company.

• Amount of funding max. 500,000 €
  
• Funding period: up to 24 months
  
• Expenditure from the following cost groups can be funded:
  
  • Personnel costs
    Only technical or medical permanent staff are eligible for funding. Personnel expenses should outweigh other project-related expenses.
    
  • Other operating expenses
    Material and consumables that are directly attributable to the project.
    
  • Expenditure on contract research and technical knowledge
    Technical knowledge and property rights acquired directly or under license from third parties. Consulting or equivalent services can also be applied for here.
    
  • Costs for instruments and equipment
    Items that are capitalized and therefore also depreciated. This means that only a proportionate useful life of the project is eligible for funding.
    
  • Travel costs
    A maximum of 2% of personnel costs can be planned for travel for project personnel financed exclusively through the Medical Valley Award.

• The research and development project must be geared towards an innovative product or process idea that is particularly demanding in technical and scientific terms. The project must be associated with considerable but calculable technical and scientific risks.
• The submitting research institution must be a university, a university hospital or a non-university research institution in Bavaria.
• The project must not have been started yet.
• The majority of the project must be carried out in Bavaria.
• The designated project manager should preferably already have experience in leading a working group or in setting up a company.
• The company must not have been founded at the start of the project.
