The North Hessian heating and systems manufacturer Viessmann wants to strengthen its sales driver and plans to invest 1 billion euros in the field of heat pumps and green climate solutions.
Despite the negative consequences of the Corona pandemic and challenges in global supply chains, the family-owned company headquartered in Allendorf, northern Hesse, reports a "new historic record" with regard to the past fiscal year: total group sales reached 3.4 billion euros. In the previous year, the figure was 2.8 billion euros. The 41% increase in demand for heat pumps in particular contributed to this, according to Allendorf. The company now intends to place greater emphasis on this strong horse: Over the next three years, Viessmann plans to invest 1 billion euros in the expansion of heat pumps and green climate solutions.
"We all need more speed and pragmatism to combat climate change and rethink the energy production and use of the future, thereby strengthening Europe's geopolitical independence," explains Max Viessmann, CEO of the Viessmann Group. "That's why we are now accelerating our growth with targeted investments in heat pumps and green climate solutions."
Targeting cross-border partnerships
With the investment, the untenrehmen aims to expand its production capacities as well as its activities in research and development. For example, Viessmann built a new development center for heat pumps in Dresden in 2020 (we reported). Research focuses are for example hydrogen-capable heat generators and fuel cells or holistic solutions for purely electrically supplied houses including digital energy management.
Also in its partnerships the 1917 created enterprise sets on heat pumps: Thus the enterprise 2021 "Pacifica Home services", a service platform with emphasis heat pumps, with seat in Great Britain. In 2020, the company took a stake in "ThermoWise", a South African heat pump specialist.
In addition, Viessmann is currently testing the benefits of heat pumps for grid stability together with 50 Hertz and Tennet. Since December last year, both transmission system operators have been able to request existing flexibilities in the event of potential bottlenecks and report them to Viessmann. In the project, Viessmann offers the flexible capacity of heat pumps from its "ViShare Energy Community" via the Equigy platform. Equigy is a cross-national, blockchain-based data platform. With its help, transmission system operators want to enable the automated integration and control of small decentralized plants in particular into the processes of grid operators and market participants.
