"Exploding" energy costs for households

German households had to pay in March for electricity, heating and mobility as much as never before. The comparison portal Check 24 speaks of exploding costs. 

On average, a German sample household spent 7,292 euros on its annual energy costs last month. This is according to Check 24 whole 80% more than still in March 2021, when the consumers in their own four walls on annual view still 4,043 euro energy costs had to berappen. 

A "model household" defines the portal as a four-person household with an annual heat consumption of 20,000 kWh and an annual electricity consumption of 5,000 kWh. In addition the used prices of the portal refer to the basic supply tariffs of the offerers. 

Heating costs: plus 163%

To the costs in detail: According to Check 24, heating costs rose by 163% compared to the same month last year. Thus a sample household had to spend in March 2021 on the yearly seen on average 1,258 euro for gas and fuel oil. Up-to-date the costs had grown on 3.306 euro. 

As reason Check 24 leads the high stock exchange price for gas. A megawatt hour of gas cost around 121 euros in wholesale on April 1. A year ago, the average daily price was 19.25 euros/MWh, as a spokesman for Check 24 specified to the editors. The portal proceeds thereby from the European gas spot index and the German trading place THE. With crude oil of the sort Brent Check 24 indicates a price increase of 72%. 

Electricity costs: plus 39%

About 39% over the previous year month the hochgerechneten costs for river lie: On the average a household paid on the yearly seen in March 2,098 euro for its river, In the previous year month were it still 1,509 euro. Also here the portal leads the stock exchange price: While in March of the current year a megawatt hour of river on commercial level on the average 244,62 euro cost, was it in the previous year month still with 45,69 euro. 

As cause for this 435-percent rise the portal calls the Russia-Ukraine war, the rising prices for natural gas, hard coal as well as CO emission certificates and the increasing current demand.

Mobility costs: plus 47,8 %

Also the risen mobility costs go debited to the households. Thus, according to Check 24, consumers had to spend an average of 1,887 euros on gasoline, diesel and charging electricity in March, viewed over the year. In the same month last year, the figure was 1,276 euros. This justifies Check 24 with the strong price increase for gasoline (+ 42%) and diesel (+ 63%).
