Communal? Digital!

Ideas competition "Municipal? Digital!" for smart ideas from Bavarian municipalities

The Bavarian Digital Ministry launched the idea competition "Kommunal? Digital!" to promote the best digital solutions of smart municipalities with up to 5 million euros. In the meantime, 10 winners have been identified, who will work on the implementation of their digital solutions for more sustainability in Bavarian municipalities until 2024.

Nearly 80 project outlines were submitted by Bavarian municipalities to the "Kommunal? Digital!" ideas competition with the aim of using digital solutions to make their communities even more sustainable and resource-efficient. From a virtual marketplace that regulates CO2 emissions from emitters in a climate-optimized way to a sensor-based city irrigation system, there were some great ideas. Deciding on the 10 winning ideas was unmistakably difficult for the jury, chaired by Digital Minister Judith Gerlach, who awarded the winners on July 15, 2021, in Günzburg.

Now the winning communities have until 2024 to implement their smart projects with model character, which are also to be adopted by other communities. The Bavarian Digital Ministry is supporting the winning communities with up to 500,000 euros each in the realization of the project ideas. The winners will receive scientific support from the respective Bayern Innovativ experts.
