Cybersecurity incidents happen every day. Sometimes it hits companies particularly hard, which can lead to major damage, outages and losses. Some of the damage events from the month of August in 2022 are listed and summarized for you here.

IHK shuts down IT systems after cyberattack

At the beginning of August, a hacker attack occurred at the central IT service provider of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Germany. After a detected malfunction, all systems were automatically shut down. According to initial information, no data was leaked, but for a month now the joint website has only been accessible to a limited extent or not at all, there are telephone restrictions and employees can no longer log into the systems. So that one can continue to be in contact current information as well as communication via social media channels are handled.

Further, the incident is being investigated. The CCI, the technical service provider and the chambers of commerce IHK-Gfl are cooperating strongly with the BSI and the investigating authorities. Further, the Central and Contact Point Cybercrime North Rhine-Westphalia has taken over the investigation.

Known hacker group encrypts data at SEMIKRON

Electronics manufacturer SEMIKRON said it was attacked by a professional hacker group. The perpetrators said they were able to steal data from the systems. Whether this is really the case is still being checked, but internal IT systems and files were encrypted. As a result, some employees are only able to work to a limited extent. A forensic investigation is currently underway, relevant authorities have been informed and all necessary measures have been initiated. Customers and contractual partners who are affected will be informed as soon as possible, the statement said.
