New coating technology from TITV Greiz: structured functional layers enable flexible, breathable smart textiles and innovative applications
TITV Greiz has patented a novel, flexible functional element that opens up new possibilities for smart textiles and functional films. The technology allows highly functional coatings to be structured in a targeted manner so that flexibility and breathability are retained in defined areas. This means that textiles and films can be functionalized without completely losing their typical material properties.
The core of the innovation is the structured rather than full-surface application of the coatings - in honeycomb patterns, for example - using digital printing processes. This allows functional and intermediate areas to be designed with millimeter precision and even conductive connections to be integrated. The patent thus creates the basis for applications in smart textiles, wearables, medical technology, architecture and industrial, conductive or magnetic surfaces. TITV Greiz is currently working on the industrial scaling of the process.
