Cybersecurity is one of the Commission's top priorities and a cornerstone for a digital and connected Europe. The increase in cyberattacks during the coronavirus crisis has shown how important it is to protect hospitals, research centers and other infrastructures. In the interests of the competitiveness of the EU economy and society, we must act decisively in this area.
This is how binding cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements are to apply in the EU in the future. This is what the EU Commission has proposed with its new cyber resilience law. It affects all products that are directly or indirectly connected to another device or a network. On the one hand, manufacturers are to be obliged to provide support and software updates to remedy any vulnerabilities that are identified. On the other, consumers are to be adequately informed about the cybersecurity of products.
