With the new "Choose Europe for Science" call, the EU Commission is launching an initiative to promote international research careers. The aim is to attract talented people from all over the world to Europe and offer them long-term prospects.

The measure is part of the "Choose Europe: advance your research career in the EU" program (2025-2027) with a total budget of 500 million euros. Organizations applying for funding commit to:

  • the inclusion of at least three postdoctoral researchers per project
  • an employment period of up to five years
  • MSCA funding for the first two to three years
  • continued employment by the host institutions for the remaining period
  • the creation of sustainable career prospects

At the presentation of the program at the Sorbonne, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized: "I am convinced that science continues to be the engine of progress and growth in our societies. That is why Europe will always choose science."

The initiative is based on the proven Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), which have been the flagship of EU research funding since 1996.
