With a new initiative, the EU Commission is supporting at least 200 Ukrainian technology companies with up to 60,000 euros. The Commission has launched the ambitious action totaling 20 million euros to support Ukraine's innovation community.
The new initiative was made possible by a targeted amendment to the 2022 work program of the European Innovation Council (EIC). The EIC will also provide non-financial support, such as business advisory services and matchmaking. This will help Ukrainian innovators enter new markets and benefit from European funding instruments. The call for proposals will open on June 23.
The €20 million funding will be disbursed for a pan-European network of start-up associations through which Ukrainian innovation actors will be supported. Synergies with relevant EU initiatives such as the Enterprise Europe Network will be ensured. The aim is to prepare Ukrainian start-ups to apply for future EIC funding opportunities. The EIC can provide up to €17.5 million in grants and equity investments for startups and mobilize further private investment up to three times the amount invested from public funds.
In addition, the agreement on Ukraine's association with the Horizon Europe program and the Euratom program for research and education entered into force after Ukraine ratified it.
