aws Best of Biotech is looking for the best business ideas in biotechnology and medical technology

Biotech is represented in the Health Partner Network at Bayern Innovativ. Together, we want to work on promoting innovative approaches in the field of biotechnology and medical technology.

aws BoB Best of Biotech is a renowned international competition in the field of life sciences that aims to turn groundbreaking business ideas and concepts into successful innovations. BoB was launched back in 2000 and can look back on ten successful editions. With the next round, the competition is also celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Organized by aws Life Science Austria (LISA), a program of Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft mbH (aws), on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy (BMAW), BoB provides new start-up impulses and offers support for young start-ups in the life sciences.

The competition will take place from April 1, 2025 to October 14, 2025. Applications are now open online: www.bestofbiotech.at

All participants will receive valuable feedback on their business concepts from experts with extensive knowledge in the fields of life sciences, patents, finance and entrepreneurship. The finalists in each category will benefit from individual coaching to prepare for their final pitch in front of the high-caliber jury. BoB offers participants high visibility within the life science community and valuable networking opportunities within the ecosystem. All participants are invited to attend the exclusive award ceremony in Vienna.
The winning team in each category will receive prize money of €8,000 and a free ticket to an international matchmaking event (BIO-Europe 2025 or MedTech Forum 2026).
BoB is open to students, researchers, teams and individuals from all over the world who want to commercialize their ideas, as well as young start-ups that are no more than three years old at the start of the competition (founded after March 31, 2022).

In 2025, the BoB will be awarded in four equal categories:
● Best BioTech Ideator ● Best BioTech Start-up
● Best MedTech Ideator ● Best MedTech Start-up

The Ideator categories are aimed at projects in the pre-foundation phase, while the start-up categories are open to young companies up to three years after foundation.
The aws guarantees that the data received from participants - with the exception of a brief public description of the project - will be treated in strict confidence. Employees of aws, external experts and jury members sign a confidentiality agreement. No distinction will be made in the evaluation between Austrian and non-Austrian participants. In addition, non-Austrian winners are not obliged to set up their company in Austria and can use the prize money as they see fit.
