Siemens Energy has announced plans to invest around 220 million euros in its transformer production facility in Nuremberg.
By 2028, the production area at the plant in Nuremberg is to be expanded by around 16,000 square meters and production capacity increased by around 50 percent. In addition to the current workforce of around 1,000, a further 350 employees are to be added by then, according to a Siemens press release.
According to the company, the investment will amount to 220 million euros. With this investment, Siemens is responding to the sharp rise in global demand for large transformers, which are needed for grid expansion.
According to Minister President Markus Söder (CSU), the Free State of Bavaria is funding the project with around 20 million euros. The money will be used in particular to strengthen research and development at the site. According to a statement from Siemens, the state is supporting the expansion of the transformer plant as a "future project of regional economic importance".
Last year, Siemens Energy had already announced that it would also be investing 90 million euros in a new converter production facility in Nuremberg. According to the company, it has invested around one billion euros in Germany over the past three years. The Group also created around 1,300 new jobs in Germany in 2024. Up to 1,500 more jobs are to be added by the end of 2026.
