Electric car registrations rise significantly in 2025 - strong start to the year after a weak previous year

Around 201,600 new electric cars were registered in Germany between January and May 2025. Compared to the same period last year, this was an increase of 43.2 percent. This is according to figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The year 2024 saw around 380,600 new registrations of electric cars in Germany. This was more than 27 percent lower than in 2023, when around 524,200 pure electric cars were newly registered. The share of e-cars in total new car registrations in 2024 was 13.5%.
