The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) published the new monitoring report on the energy transition today. It was compiled by the scientific institutes BET and EWI on behalf of the BMWi.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (CDU) emphasized at the presentation that the energy transition is at a "crossroads". In addition to the expansion of renewable energies, greater attention must be paid to security of supply, affordability and economic efficiency in the future.
"Only with secure, clean and affordable energy can we secure jobs, maintain competitiveness and strengthen social cohesion," said Reiche.
The Minister proposes ten key measures to make the energy transition economically and competitively friendly:
- Realistic demand assessment and planning basis
- Promotion of renewable energies in line with the market and the system
- Synchronized expansion of grids, renewables and decentralized flexibility
- Rapid establishment of a capacity market open to all technologies
- More flexibility and digitalization in the electricity system
- Maintaining uniform and liquid energy markets
- Review of subsidy regimes and reduction of subsidies
- Targeted promotion of research and innovation
- Pragmatic hydrogen ramp-up without overregulation
- Establishment of CCS/CCU as climate protection technologies
