A deep geothermal project in Pullach near Munich brings Daldrup & Söhne the largest single order in the company's history. Drilling is expected to start in December 2025.
The drilling technology and geothermal specialist Daldrup & Söhne, based in Oberhaching (Bavaria), has won an EU-wide tender from the municipal energy company "Innovative Energie für Pullach GmbH" (IEP). IEP is a wholly owned subsidiary of the municipality of Pullach and has been operating a district heating network based on geothermal energy there for over 20 years. With the new project, it is pursuing the goal of further expanding the heat supply.
Daldrup & Söhne is now to act as general contractor for the drilling of up to ten boreholes at two locations in the south of the Bavarian capital. As announced in a press release on July 21, the company is initially planning seven deep boreholes to tap geothermal energy from the Malm deposit (Upper Jurassic). Depending on the results, three further wells could follow.
The project will start as soon as the planned exploration insurance in the KfW program 572 is active. This funding instrument of the state-owned Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) is intended to cushion the financial risk if no sufficiently productive thermal water is found during drilling. Drilling work is scheduled to begin in December 2025. Daldrup & Söhne is planning around two and a half years for the construction work.
The company anticipates drilling depths of between 4,000 and 5,100 meters and temperatures of between 122 and 142 degrees Celsius. According to Daldrup & Söhne, the order value is in the upper double-digit million range. This makes it the largest single project to date in the company's 75-year history.
CEO Andreas Tönies sees this as a model for further projects: The high number of boreholes at neighboring locations enables efficiency gains and reduces development costs. This could also serve as a model for other municipalities in northern and southern Germany.
The new order increases the order volume of Daldrup & Söhne AG to over 130 million euros. The company expects positive effects on the financial years 2026 to 2028 - both in terms of turnover and operating profit (we reported).
