New grid fees will apply from 2025. The electricity supplier Rabot Charge has compiled the developments in a map of Germany.

Falling grid fees in ten federal states, rising in six: grid fees will be significantly lower from January 1, particularly in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. However, it will be more expensive in Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen and western Germany.

On August 30, the Federal Network Agency determined how grid operators with particularly high costs due to the expansion of renewable electricity generation can be identified and receive financial compensation for this additional burden. The aim is for all electricity consumers to share fairly in the additional costs caused by the grid conversion.

The existing levy in accordance with Section 19 of the Electricity Grid Charges Ordinance (StromNEV) will be used. This levy will increase from 0.643 Ct/kWh to 1.558 Ct/kWh for the year 2025 (we reported). The eligible grid operators - 178 out of a total of 883 grid operators according to Rabot Charge - will receive financial compensation from this, which they can pass on to their customers.

In the majority of federal states, this leads to lower grid fees, as can be seen from the Rabot Charge overview. The electricity provider analyzed the grid operators' price sheets from 2024 and the provisional price sheets for 2025.
