Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, welcomes the announced expansion of the second battery IPCEI as "an important signal for companies in the battery industry as well as for Bavaria as a business location."

This will allow further projects in the field of battery technology to be supported financially and the transformation of industry and Bavaria as a business location to be driven forward in a targeted manner. Aiwanger had already addressed this demand in the summer of 2022 to the Federal Minister of Economics, Robert Habeck, and the Vice President of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager.

The aim of the so-called Battery IPCEI ("Important Projects of Common European Interest") is to strengthen the European battery ecosystem. The extension of the IPCEI ("European Battery Innovation - EuBatIn") is aimed at innovative projects in the battery value chain. Bavarian companies can also express their interest in participating by February 6, 2023.

For the extension of the second battery IPCEI, the federal government plans to provide budget funds of around 1 billion euros nationwide. The federal states from which the project participants come will participate in the funding.

Aiwanger: "I would like to call on all interested Bavarian companies to participate in the process. This is an important opportunity to build resilient supply chains for Bavarian industry, especially for Bavarian SMEs. We should take advantage of this together." Aiwanger also assured national and international companies with an interest in Bavaria as a business location of the support of the Bavarian state government.
