Cyberattack on Helmholtz Center in Munich

A hacker attack on the Helmholtz Center in Munich disrupted all communications and possibly stole data. Initially, the research center could not be reached by mail or telephone. The responsible cybercrime department of the Criminal Investigation Department 12 in Munich was also immediately on site with officers, as no other communication was possible. On its website, the Helmholtz Zentrum informed after a few days that some systems could be restored. It also said a hacker group had taken responsibility for the attack and announced it would publish leaked data, which, according to current knowledge, probably originated in the administrative area and did not contain research information. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

Russian hackers find vulnerabilities in Outlook

A vulnerability in Microsoft's Outlook program allowed Russian hackers to penetrate several European companies, the software company itself has confirmed. The hackers managed to do so without any interaction on the part of the user, through phishing, for example. Using Outlook was enough to get into the networks and spread more malware. Microsoft released 80 security updates in the meantime, including one to close the critical vulnerability. The hacker group "Fancy Bear" is believed to be behind the attack and is part of the Russian military intelligence agency GRU. Governments, military, transport and energy companies are said to be particularly affected.

Blackmail after hacker attack on Ferrari

After a hacker attack, the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari was blackmailed. The cybercriminals demanded a ransom payment to prevent the release of customer data. The group said it did not respond to the demand and instead hired a cybersecurity firm to investigate. Affected customers have been informed, it said. There would be no impact on business operations.

Swiss radio stations and newspapers restricted after ransomware attack

A ransomware attack occurred at Swiss media company NZZ. As a result, the daily newspaper and "Schweiz am Wochenende" could only appear in reduced form. Several CH-Media radio stations were also affected live and could not play music. There are no further details on perpetrators or the extortion so far.
