Tüv aims to strengthen its market position in the wind energy sector with the acquisition of Wind-Consult.
The Tüv Nord Group has been the sole owner of Rostock-based Wind-Consult since June 5. The company will continue to be managed under the existing brand by the managing directors Dietmar Wüstenberg and Joachim Schwabe. Tüv Nord has also taken over the company's existing 50 percent stake in Ammonit Wind Tunnel. Here too, the shareholding and management will remain in place, as detailed in a press release issued by the company. Ammonit Wind Tunnel, which remains 50 percent owned by Ammonit Measurement, is a specialist provider for the calibration and testing of flow sensors.
Wind-Consult is a measurement institute for wind energy and offers measurements, expert opinions and tests for wind turbines and sites. The company is a recognized test laboratory of IECRE (IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Renewable Energy Applications, a system for conformity assessment of equipment, systems and projects in the fields of wind, solar and marine energy) and a notified measuring body according to §29b BImSchG.
As one of six certified inspection bodies, Wind-Consult is authorized to validly inspect the site quality of German onshore wind farms - a certificate that is required after five, ten and 15 years of operation in order to receive the market premium under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). Wind-Consult also provides specialized services, such as measuring blade setting angles or blade spacing, in Europe, the USA, China and the APAC countries.
"Together, we occupy a market-leading position in site assessment for the German and international wind market. We are also strengthening our broad range of services in the technical measurement of wind turbines," says Alexander Ohff. "We are delighted to have gained an experienced partner in Wind-Consult that is recognized in the market for its high quality," says the Head of Renewable Energies at Tüv Nord.
