The KNeDL year 2021

An exciting year lies behind us, with many challenges, exciting ideas and interesting encounters. We were able to get to know many great, creative and committed people and are delighted to have gained them for our network!

In the coming year, we will continue to expand our contacts and work with you to help set the course for innovative agriculture.

Here is an overview of our activities with the KNeDL last year:

Launch of the Bavarian Digital Agriculture Competence Network

The big kick-off for the competence network took place in mid-2021. With selected participants from business, science and practice, we held several constructive workshops to gather ideas and wishes on how a digital agriculture competence network could function. The development and evaluation of current core topics and challenges in the sector also played an important role. The common goal of all stakeholders in the KNeDL is ultimately to promote innovative agriculture with the sensible use of digitalization.

Events:

My farm - My yield - My data: Data platforms in agriculture

Agriculture is a domain that produces a large amount of data. Therefore, on September 23, 2021, an exchange took place on existing and emerging data platforms in agriculture that generate added value for farms and the industry from the data generated from the farm, the environment and the value chain. There were also exciting insights into the European Gaia-X project, the option of state data platforms and regional models such as GeoBox Rhineland-Palatinate.

  • Data economy for Europe - The GAIA-X project - Dr. Sabine Wilfling - Unit Leader Public/Government | Scheer GmbH | Munich
  • Data platforms in agriculture - Current projects and concepts - Prof. Dr. Jörg Dörr - Scientific speaker KNeDL, RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau | Head of Smart Farming Program at Fraunhofer IESE
  • Resilient Smart Farming (RSF) - Resilience of digital infrastructures and knowledge transfer using the example of the GeoBox infrastructure - Daniel Eberz-Eder - Coordination of the projects Digitalization in Agriculture Rhineland-Palatinate at the Service Centre for Rural Areas Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück

The digital farm store - online marketing of regional products

We discussed how regional products can be marketed online and what options there are for producers with our guests at the online event "The digital farm store - online marketing of regional products" on October 27, 2021. Nowadays, an online store offers a good opportunity to reach new customers.

Different concepts and models in Germany were presented.

Our five speakers from the field provided information about their "online marketing" concepts. The Competence Center for Nutrition (KErn) started with an overview of initiatives for more visibility and networking of producing and processing companies. Another contribution was made by the Regiothek from Passau, which primarily deals with the transparency and mediation of supply chains in the region.
Of course, such models also exist in the rest of Germany, where PIELERS GmbH from Lower Saxony reported on their online marketplace and presented the corresponding software solutions.
Finally, radimundi from Munich presented their concept of bringing fresh produce directly from the producer to the region.

  • Regio trilogy for more visibility and networking - Daniela Veigl & Robin Ehrhardt, Competence Center for Nutrition (KErn), Kulmbach
  • The Regiothek: A digital platform for suppliers, consumers and local authorities - Alexander Treml, Managing Director of Regiothek GmbH, Passau
  • The future of local supply is digital - Kristina Møller, Head of Business Development, PIELERS GmbH
  • radimundi - Digital. Regional. Directly from the producer! - Andreas Alber, Marketplace Manager, BayWa AG, Munich

Modern agriculture in the DACH region - where the farm of the future is becoming a reality

Digital technologies are an important tool for remaining competitive. Germany, Austria and Switzerland are already successfully conducting practical research and knowledge transfer in the field of digitalization in agriculture. The following initiatives presented their projects and work on November 29, 2021

  • Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture: DigiMilch experimental field
  • Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences: Diabek experimental field
  • Swiss Future Farm and
  • Innovation Farm from Austria

In addition to this information event, the participating institutions met afterwards to discuss common challenges, goals and opportunities for efficient cooperation. KNeDL will continue to support the process of closer networking in the DACH region in 2022.

KNeDL in practice:

The paperless office

This time we spoke to Andreas Dörr. The agricultural engineer from Ostheim manages a 1250-hectare arable and grassland farm on the Bavarian/Thuringian border. In addition to the many new technologies and machines he uses on his farm, the paperless office is the biggest innovation in his eyes.

Andreas Dörr presented what he understands by this, how it can be implemented and why it also makes work easier and saves time on small and part-time farms at our discussion forum on September 30, 2021.

Start in eCommerce

Rebekka & Christian May, who work on the May organic farm in Junkershausen, who grow crops, produce piglets, fatten pigs and run two mobile hens, were guests at KNeDL on November 22, 2021. They market their products through their own farm store, many farm, village, organic and unpackaged stores and restaurants, as well as through their own online store. They tell us how it all started with eCommerce and how the products are then shipped throughout Germany.

And that was by no means all ...

In addition to these larger events, we were also able to represent KNeDL and thus also Bavarian digital agriculture at various national and international events within and outside the agricultural sector. The good cooperation with various loyal network partners and the fruitful and close networking of the various subject areas within Bayern Innovativ are particularly noteworthy.

The KNeDL is much more than just events and exchanges.

This year, you can expect a number of publications on digital agriculture that we were able to prepare last year. You can look forward to information on eCommerce, agricultural robotics, trends in agriculture and cybersecurity in practical agriculture.

Last but not least...

In its first year, KNeDL's activities have already shown that, as a neutral hub, we bring together creative minds and movers and shakers who didn't even know about each other at the start of the year.

We look forward to an eventful 2022!
