Sustainability at BioPark Regensburg - full speed ahead!

BioPark Regensburg GmbH, a long-standing partner in the Health Innovation Network at Bayern Innovativ, shows how sustainability works and can be successfully implemented. In spring 2024, they conducted a survey on sustainability among the center's tenants to gain further insights. The BioPark is thus continuing its efforts to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a local level - a project that the city of Regensburg has officially supported since 2021.

An assessment with Bayern Innovativ GmbH as part of a funding program of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) showed that the BioPark already has an above-average level of sustainability in many areas and also offers interesting potential for improvement. With the publication of the second fact sheet on sustainability 2024/25, both progress and new measures are presented to further strengthen the commitment to sustainability. The key topics include

  • Further expansion of electromobility
  • Expansion of central waste disposal to promote the circular economy
  • Opening of the BioPark Campus Trail for outdoor training

In addition to these three focal points, Dr. Alexandra Sauter has been appointed as the BioPark's Sustainability Officer to drive the initiatives forward in a targeted manner. But it is not just the BioPark that is focusing on sustainability - local companies are also getting involved.

Numares AG, for example, has carried out sustainability assessments and is also involved in the "Emerging Green Materials" session at MedtecSUMMIT, which focuses on sustainable innovations. This makes the BioPark a role model for the entire region.

The BioPark's current progress is based, among other things, on the measures in the first 2022/23 fact sheet, which focused on saving electricity through photovoltaic systems, replacing light sources with LED technology and offsetting CO₂ emissions from business trips.

We are delighted to have such an innovative partner at our side in the BioPark, which promotes important topics such as sustainability and thus inspires other companies. Bayern Innovativ GmbH is very keen to further promote sustainability in the healthcare sector. Through workshops, focus groups and other projects, we are working together for a greener future.
