The municipal energy supplier in Heidenheim is taking over a solar park with a total capacity of almost 11 MW from project developer Juwi.

Stadtwerke Heidenheim is adding another solar park to its renewables portfolio. According to project developer Juwi, the municipal utility has acquired the plant currently under construction near the municipality of Contwig in the South-West Palatinate. The "Truppacherhof Solar Park" is scheduled to go into operation at the end of December this year.

The total installed capacity is expected to be around 10.8 MW. Juwi estimates the amount of electricity generated annually at 12.3 million kWh. The park consists of a total of around 17,500 modules, the amount of energy generated from renewable sources covers the annual electricity requirements of around 4,200 households and at the same time corresponds to a saving of around 13,000 tons of CO2 compared to energy generation in a conventional power plant.

According to the company, the renewable energy portfolio of Heidenheimer Stadtwerke will grow to a total output of around 260 MW with the new plant, generating around 503 million kWh of electricity per year. This is "soon three times the total electricity consumption in the Heidenheim grid area", it says.

The acquisition of the Truppacherhof solar park is seen in Heidenheim as "an ideal addition to our own green power generation portfolio", according to Michael Holdenrieder, CEO of Stadtwerke AG.
