Position paper: Shaping sustainable electronics across the entire value chain

The working group "Sustainable Electronics" of the Bavarian Chips Alliance has released a position paper outlining concrete solutions to enhance sustainability in the electronics and semiconductor industries. The focus lies on actionable measures across the entire product lifecycle – from design and manufacturing to repair, recycling, and the digital use of data.

The position paper consolidates the perspectives jointly developed by companies and organizations within the working group, addressing emerging trends in sustainable electronics.

Its aim is twofold: to inform stakeholders about current developments and to provide targeted, practical recommendations that enable companies and institutions in the electronics and semiconductor sectors to address sustainability challenges effectively.

The paper also seeks to provide valuable impetus for research by highlighting industry-relevant trends. These insights can help identify potential areas for collaboration and opportunities for knowledge transfer between academia and industry.

Furthermore, the position paper is intended to serve as a strategic resource for policymakers at the European level, offering a knowledge base for guiding decisions on the future of sustainable electronics.

This paper is the result of a structured and collaborative process involving representatives from over 80 companies and organizations – and is available for free download in German.
