Interview: Three questions for Lisa Figas
23.09.2025
In our short series "Three questions for...", we interview selected personalities on various topics. Among other things, the questions address topics that are discussed by the interviewees in the form of keynote speeches or other activities at Bayern Innovativ events. Today we are giving our short interview to Lisa Figas, Founder & CEO, TelemetryDeck GmbH. Lisa Figas is one of the speakers at our network conference "Innovations for the mobility of the future" on 20.11.2025 in Munich.
Lisa, what inspired you personally to focus on your presentation topic "Usage analyses and data protection - practical example of the Augsburg public transport app"?
Lisa Figas: Together with Stadtwerke Augsburg, we have created a fantastic use case where - taking into account the highest data protection standards - we create usage analyses that provide the data basis for improvements to Augsburg's public transport app, swa Mobil. We are thus closing a major gap in the design of tomorrow's mobility: we are focusing on the users and their needs.
What key challenges do you currently see in designing sustainable solutions for the mobility of tomorrow and how can your experience help to solve them?
Lisa Figas: Socially, we are striving for a diversification of mobility options: Away from private cars, towards buses and trains, car sharing, bike sharing, e-scooters, carpooling, etc. We make it easier for people to change their behavior if the alternative offers are designed intuitively. People need to feel that they can make their individual journeys efficiently with the help of the new services.
This makes data-supported optimization of services (such as mobility or ticket apps) necessary, but the provider of the mobility solution must not become a monitor of individual movement patterns - this would destroy any trust the population may have. Anonymized usage analysis will finally make it possible for mobility providers to improve their services based on real usage data - without monitoring the population. This will result in data-based decisions and mobility services can be improved for everyone.
How do you think mobility will change in the next five to ten years, and what role will your topic play in this?
Lisa Figas: We assume that mobility will become increasingly individualized - depending on the phase of life, location and services. Private providers are responding to this trend by massively monitoring their users in order to create usage profiles on the basis of which they can constantly optimize their services. These usage profiles often end up on the secondary market of data traders, where they are then used to display personalized or location-based advertising.
Public authorities, state and municipal public transport providers are compared by passengers with private providers in terms of user-friendliness, degree of digitalization and platform performance. Therefore, these providers must also understand their users well by means of usage analyses and strive for permanent optimization. At TelemetryDeck, we support providers with anonymized usage data to find data-driven opportunities for improvement.
