06.05.2025

The Enterprise Europe Network informs:

The European Commission has presented the "Choose Europe for Science" initiative to position Europe as a leading location for research and innovation and attract top scientists worldwide. A key objective is to ensure the openness and freedom of science in Europe.

The following measures are planned to achieve this:

  • New law on the European Research Area: ensuring the free exchange of knowledge and data.
  • Financial package of 500 million euros (2025-2027):
  • Includes long-term funding via the European Research Council.
  • Improves support for young researchers through the "Maria SkÅ‚odowska-Curie" program.

To accelerate scientific breakthroughs towards innovation and business opportunities, a first European Innovation Act and a start-up and scale-up strategy will be presented. This is primarily aimed at removing regulatory obstacles and facilitating access to venture capital.

In the long term, the Commission is aiming to increase investment in research and development to 3% of GDP by 2030. In addition, procedures for the entry and residence of researchers are to be simplified in order to establish Europe as an attractive magnet for global research talent and ensure its competitiveness.
