In November 2020, the German government decided to set up a "Future Fund for the Automotive Industry" to provide support for the medium- and long-term challenges facing the automotive industry in the transformation process. A central component is the establishment of so-called transformation hubs for the automotive industry, which will operate throughout Germany and cover various key topics. In addition, the transformation hubs should help to raise awareness of resource and energy efficiency and environmentally sustainable production in the value chains. The duration of the funding measures in the amount of about 3.5 million euros is set until June 2025.
Thematic-oriented transformation hubs along relevant value chains of the automotive and supplier industry
The funding addresses the actors in the regions affected by structural change along the entire value chain of the automotive industry and primarily supports knowledge transfer in the regions. In the thematically oriented hubs, the respective knowledge about the thematic focus is to be highlighted, bundled and prepared for transfer in the regions. The focus is primarily on current economic and technological trends, R&D results and state-of-the-art digitization technologies and applications of their thematic focus.
The key topics include powertrain/engine, battery, chassis, body, automated driving, software/entertainment/ computer systems, on-board network, interior/cockpit/seats, climate.
Bayern Innovativ - Partner in three Hubs
Bayern Innovativ already accompanies companies in the automotive industry through all stages of the transformation process. With its many years of experience and expertise and its extensive network, it is ideally placed to play an active part in the establishment and implementation of specific transformation hubs.
Bayern Innovativ is involved as a partner in the following three transformation hubs:
Transformation hub for sustainable innovations in vehicle interiors
Transformation hub to electric powertrain
Transformation hub for the value chain of the automotive wiring harness
.
Preparation, translation and adaptation of results
The primary purpose of the transformation hubs is to prepare, translate and adapt results and solutions from research and development. In particular, these are R&D projects of the funding program "Future Investments Vehicle Manufacturers and Supplier Industry", which are adapted to the specific needs of vehicle and industry dominated regions (topic-specific, nationwide) and address this target group with targeted formats.
The transformation hubs are to fulfill the following functions in particular:
Information function: knowledge transfer and translation of results and solutions from research and development for the target group (topic-specific)
Hub function: hub between solutions from research and development and the target group (also back channel for requirements of users to research and development)
Scaling function: Scaling of research and development solutions via existing structures along the value chains as a contribution to transformation
Networking function: networking of relevant actors, also via transformation networks, and initiation of implementation steps, e. g. e.g. through transformation projects
