Offers from the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg for SMEs

Medium-Sized Digital Center Augsburg

04/24/2022

On March 1, 2022, the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg was launched with the aim of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the skilled trades in digitization. The center was founded as part of the "Mittelstand-Digital" funding priority of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and will be funded with around 5 million euros over a period of three years.

The new center continues the work of the Mittelstand 4.0 Competence Center Augsburg, which has already been an established contact for digitization in SMEs in Bavaria over the past five years. In addition to the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg, 27 other centers belong to the Mittelstand-Digital funding priority. The competencies available in this network complement each other and thus offer SMEs a comprehensive range of support in order to be able to provide qualified answers to all questions relating to digitization in SMEs.

The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg primarily serves the focal areas of "Sustainability", "Digital Strategies", "Artificial Intelligence", "Work 4.0", "Finance 4.0" and "Networked Production & Logistics". The existing expertise is bundled, prepared in a way that is suitable for the target group and conveyed in a practical manner.

First and foremost, SMEs from the manufacturing sector, the skilled trades and the production-related and consumer-oriented service industry are addressed, which may be more dependent on external technical and personnel support due to a smaller number of employees. Various transfer services offer these companies demand-oriented, free access and show ways to the "company of the future": From the factory or lab tour, where digitization solutions can be experienced live, to in-depth training courses for professional development, to the joint implementation of a long-term digitization project. A particular concern is to reach out to more remote regions in Bavaria in order to be a supportive partner to all companies - whether in rural areas or close to the center's locations.

The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg ensures the best possible support for SMEs through a consortium of different representatives from research and transfer. As a research partner with comprehensive expertise in digital strategies and Industry 4.0, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. is involved in the project with its two institutes, the Fraunhofer Institute for Foundry, Composites and Processing Technology IGCV and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS. In addition, the Research and Transfer Institute of the Free State of Bavaria for Software-Intensive Systems (fortiss) acts as an expert in the field of software solutions and AI, ibi research at the University of Regensburg GmbH for the topic area of Finance 4.0, and the Technical University of Munich with the Chair of Materials Handling Material Flow Logistics (fml) and the Institute of Machine Tools and Industrial Management (iwb) for the areas of logistics, sustainability and Work 4.0 in production. As an interface to the companies, the VDMA Bavaria in Munich is involved in the center, which is also the head of the center.

The head of the center, Mr. Andreas Estner, is available as a contact person for the new Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Augsburg (e-mail: Contact by Mail , Tel: 089/ 2787287-33).
