The Forschungsgesellschaft für Energiewirtschaft (FfE) and TenneT have jointly developed the CO2 Monitor, which provides hourly greenhouse gas emission factors of the German electricity mix.

This innovative approach is based on transparent balancing and has already been tested by TÜV SÜD. The platform is intended to contribute to a better understanding of the emissions intensity of the electricity mix and to react flexibly to it.

Fields of application of the CO2 Monitor

The data from the CO2 Monitor is used in various areas. For example, companies can use it for their sustainability reporting in order to provide precise evidence of their GHG emissions. In addition, the hourly emission factors can be used to calculate the carbon footprint of products, which is particularly relevant for flexible and electricity-intensive products. Furthermore, the CO2 Monitor offers the opportunity to take targeted measures to reduce GHG emissions and thus contribute to climate protection.
