The EU Commission wants to make food safer and to this end is revising EU legislation on food contact materials. In particular, the aim is to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals and support innovative and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
Food contact materials are all materials and objects intended to come into contact with food, such as packaging and containers, kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery. These can be made of a variety of materials, such as plastic, rubber, paper and metal. It also includes items used in the manufacture and transport of food.
All interested parties are invited to contribute to the public consultation by January 11, 2023.
