Applications for the Access City Award 2025 can now be submitted. The prize is awarded to cities that have done outstanding work to become more accessible for people with disabilities.

The 2025 edition marks the 15th anniversary of the Access City Award. In this next edition, which is linked to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the Commission will also award a special mention for "accessible sports infrastructure". German winning cities in previous years include: Berlin with the first prize (2013), Bremerhaven, Marburg, Cologne and Wiesbaden each with a second prize. Dresden, Hamburg and Tübingen received a special mention.

The Access City Award recognizes cities that prioritize accessibility and thus improve the quality of life for all. These cities have demonstrated best practice and created equal access to urban life for people with disabilities and older citizens through their initiatives, including housing, public transport and information and communication technologies and services. The award is organized by the European Commission in partnership with the European Disability Forum. It is open to cities in the EU with more than 50,000 inhabitants. The first, second and third place winners of the 2025 Accessible City Award will receive prize money of 150,000 euros, 120,000 euros and 80,000 euros respectively.

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony during the European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference on November 28 and 29, 2024.

The application deadline is September 10.
