Second KreativIndex - Current development of the cultural and creative industries in Bavaria
January 28, 2025
The vbw - Vereinigung der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e. V. and the Bayerische Landesverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft e. V. (BLVKK) have presented the second KreativIndex. The index value in 2024 is 61 points out of a total of 200 possible points and has therefore fallen by 15 points compared to the previous year.
vbw Managing Director Bertram Brossardt explains: "The challenging economic situation is weighing heavily on the industry. Yet it is so important for our location. 3.8 percent of the workforce in Bavaria work in the creative industries, and at 44.4 billion euros, they account for around three percent of the turnover of the Bavarian economy. The annual survey by the KreativIndex is intended to help assess the economic situation of the CCI and identify solutions to the major challenges facing the sector."
Development in the sub-indices
The index is made up of three sub-areas:
- Employment: 51 points (-49 points)
- Expert opinion: 55 points (+1 point)
- Media response: 77 points (+1 point)
Carola Kupfer, President of the BLVKK, adds: "We are experiencing a dramatic slump in employment trends in the KuK in particular. At the same time, the results reflect the extremely difficult business situation. What's more, more than half of the experts surveyed rate the situation in the KuK as poor. In addition, public perception of the sector continues to be significantly lower than its economic importance. We urgently need to catch up here"..."
Technological opportunities and new business areas
According to the experts surveyed, technological developments, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), are opening up new opportunities. These relate to process automation, market forecasts and the accessibility of cultural offerings.
Bertram Brossardt also sees potential in networking with other sectors:
"In addition, new business areas are emerging for the KuK through networking with other sectors - especially in the service sector. To achieve this, it is important to raise awareness of the economic potential of the CCI, to strengthen knowledge and technology transfer and to enter into joint collaborations."
