[Review] Arts and Crafts Mile on October 10 and 11, 2024 in Erlangen

Change of perspective - sustainable together in the future!

26.11.2024

In glorious weather, 20 artisans from Erlangen and the surrounding region presented their works in the city center around the Erlangen City Theater.

From hand-woven bicycle baskets, clothing and jewelry to ceramic finishes using Japanese firing techniques - the variety of materials such as wood, metal, glass, fabrics, knitwear, ceramics, porcelain, wickerwork and woven goods was impressive. This diversity impressively demonstrated the range of arts and crafts.

The arts and crafts sector produces both unique and mass-produced items, all of which are characterized by individual design and careful production. Arts and crafts occupy a special position in the cultural and creative industries, as they form the interface between craftsmanship and artistic design. The market mechanisms for arts and crafts products differ significantly from those of industrially produced mass-produced goods.

The bayernkreativ program for craftspeople addresses these specific challenges. The event aimed to make creative and culturally significant crafts from the region as well as the cultural and creative industries tangible and to promote them.

The Arts and Crafts Mile 2024 was funded by the "Sonderfonds Innenstädte beleben" program of the government of Middle Franconia. The event was organized by the Cultural Department and the Economic Department of the City of Erlangen. The Bavarian Center for Cultural and Creative Industries and the Chamber of Crafts for Middle Franconia were involved as cooperation partners.
