From the idea to the corporate start-up
Microsystems technology traditionally uses substrates made of silicon, ceramics, glass and Kapton, a non-thermoplastic material. Each of these materials has its own specific property profile. Ensinger, a family-run global player in the plastics industry, has developed a highly filled polyether ether ketone (PEEK) into an innovative substrate for new process chains in microsystems technology together with the IMPT Hannover.
This gave rise to the corporate start-up Ensinger Microsystems - the only supplier in the world that can manufacture microsystems, especially sensors, interposers, microfluidic channels and similar functional structures, on PEEK substrates with a completely new process chain. In 2025, Ensinger and Matronic have pooled their expertise in order to expand sales and bring the innovative PEEK substrates to new markets together.

Ensinger opens up a new dimension in microsystems technology with electrically functionalized thermoplastic PEEK substrates and a new type of process chain. This gives our customers more design freedom, lower costs and the opportunity to realize innovations that were previously impossible.

The real USP: A completely new process chain
Our newly developed process enables the cost-efficient production of microsystems on thermoplastics - without lithography and clean rooms. This opens up completely new possibilities:
- Economical production without miniaturization
- Production of larger systems
- Economical production of medium quantities (up to several thousand units)
- High integration density in the plastic
- Significant advantages in assembly and connection technology (AVT)
The result is a cost-efficient production system that enables new applications and innovations that would previously have failed for cost reasons or were not technically possible.

It enables developers to break completely new ground: To realize projects that were previously impossible and to implement ideas that previously failed due to costs, material limitations or production hurdles. We do not supply standard products, but develop customized systems with our customers.
