The continuing competitive pressure combined with the looming shortage of skilled workers is forcing the use of all potential for improvement. On the other hand, the increased productivity due to new tools leads to shorter process times. In the last 100 years, the achievable cutting speed in steel cutting has increased by a factor of 100!
Improvements on the cutting tool side can bring the fastest benefits in production, as opposed to investments in new machinery.
It is crucial that the new possibilities opened up by new cutting materials, coatings and tool geometries are quickly and consistently implemented in practice by users to significantly increase productivity on cost-intensive machine tools.
The aim of the workshop is to address the above issues and work out the benefits for users. In addition to providing information, the workshop will also offer a discussion forum between industrial users, suppliers and university experts.
