A chart is worth a thousand words: In a current infographic, the editorial team regularly highlights figures from the energy sector.
Over the past ten years, there has been a steady increase in building permits for new residential construction in Germany for electric heat pumps - in the year 2025 up to September, the share of this primary heating energy was 67.2 percent. However, the use of gas and bio natural gas has declined. While gas was the primary energy source for heating in around 48.3% of homes approved for construction in 2013, this figure was just 3.7% in the first nine months of 2025.
