Humanoid robotics: Bavaria provides strategic impetus for a globally leading future ecosystem

18.02.2026

Bavaria is strategically driving humanoid robotics forward: with a clear vision until 2036, a globally leading deep-tech ecosystem is to be created - for innovation, competitiveness and technological sovereignty.

Humanoid robotics is rapidly developing into a key future field with great technological depth and huge economic potential. In order to actively shape this dynamic, the Mechatronics & Automation Cluster at Bayern Innovativ invited leading experts from science, industry, solution providers and user companies to a kick-off workshop at the beginning of February.
The aim of the initiative is to pool existing expertise in Bavaria and define the next steps together on the way to becoming a leading innovation location. This resulted in a clear and ambitious vision:

" In 2036, Bavaria will have a globally leading ecosystem for intelligent, trustworthy humanoid robotics - from education, technology and production through to application. This ecosystem strengthens Europe's prosperity and sovereignty and makes people's lives easier."

In the second part of the workshop, specific fields of action and topics were identified, which will now be further elaborated in structured working groups. The aim is to drive forward technological breakthroughs in a targeted manner and pave the way for companies to enter new markets.

Humanoid robotics is an example of what is meant by deep tech: science-based, technologically highly complex innovations with a long-term impact on the economy and society. In addition to robotics, the Bavarian innovation landscape is therefore also dedicated to other key technologies such as fusion energy and quantum computing, thus actively shaping Europe's technological future.
