The EU Commission is awarding free Interrail passes to young Europeans aged 18 to 20 as part of DiscoverEU. Those interested can still apply until October 25, 2022, 12.00 p.m.

NEW! Starting in 2022, selected participants will receive a DiscoverEU discount card with discounts on cultural and learning opportunities, sports activities, local transport, accommodation, meals and more.

Requirements for application

Be born between 1. January 2004 (inclusive) and December 31, 2004 (inclusive)
correctly indicate on the online application form the number of your identity card, passport or residence card
be a citizen of or have permanent legal residence* in: a Member State of the European Union, including overseas countries and territories, or a non-EU country associated with the Erasmus+ program, i.e. Iceland, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia or Turkey.

How does the application process work?
Young people have to complete a multiple-choice quiz with general questions about the European Union and other EU initiatives for young people. In an additional question must estimate how many young people are likely to apply in this round. The closer they get to the correct answer, the more points they receive. This allows the Commission to draw up a ranking list. Each Member State is allocated a certain number of Travel Passes according to its share of the total EU population.

Young people with special needs are explicitly encouraged to participate in DiscoverEU. The Commission provides them with information and tips and covers costs for special assistance, such as escorts, assistance dogs, etc.
