27 companies now use the Thüga Smart Service grid operator platform. The system is to be expanded further in the coming years.

Thüga Smart Service GmbH (TSG), based in Naila, Bavaria, launched its "grid operator platform" four years ago. Since then, the number of participating companies has risen continuously - there are currently 27, with eleven new customers joining in the past year alone, according to the company.

The platform is a modular software-as-a-service solution for the digitalization and automation of grid processes for grid operators. Users can deploy individual modules or use the complete solution.

"When we launched four years ago, the main focus was on the topic of 'digitalized house connections'," says Naila. The aim was to set up a quick, uncomplicated and intuitive process similar to the one end customers are familiar with from online shopping.

In collaboration with customers, the solution developed into an interlocking system that also includes the installer portal, commissioning, grid registration and feed-in. "This allows us to cover all relevant grid processes end-to-end digitally and efficiently. And in a way that the end customer perceives as user-friendly," says Alexander Gebhardt, Head of Portal Solutions at TSG.

The network operator platform has a modular structure and can be used either as individual components or as a complete solution. It digitizes central grid processes such as the house connection with application, offer and integration into the ERP system. It is also possible to register feed-in systems and other devices that require registration, such as charging devices or electric heaters.

In addition, the grid operator platform supports the processing of commissioning notifications by installers, including customer acceptance and contract conclusion. The management of installers, ID cards and permits is also mapped via the platform.

Target size of 35 to 40 customers

The solution also offers interfaces for connecting to backend systems such as ERP, GIS/BIS, billing or CRM. The solution currently supports all common ERP systems such as SAP R/3, SAP S/4HANA, Wilken and Schleupen with existing interfaces.

It takes into account regulatory requirements, for example from the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), and can be flexibly adapted to future adjustments to market rules. As it is provided as Software as a Service (SaaS), according to the provider, the IT investment requirement for users is low and rapid implementation is possible.

Thüga Smart Service is already planning the next steps. "We are currently in many discussions with other interested customers and are aiming for a target size of around 35 to 40 customers for the platform," says TSG Managing Director Alexander Haßdenteufel.

"Our vision is to establish smart IT solutions together with and for our customers," continues Haßdenteufel. "The focus here is on our energy management platforms." As an interlocking process chain from meter-to-cash across all market roles, they reduce the complexity of interfaces and thus create operational reliability and cost efficiency at the same time.
