The Reichershofen substation can no longer be connected to the grid and must be replaced. Bayernwerk Netz and LEW Verteilnetz are reporting numerous disruptions due to the flooding
Bayernwerk is particularly concerned about the tense flood situation in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. There are still supply interruptions here, especially in the 8,500-inhabitant community of Reichertshofen. The substation there was disconnected from the power grid on June 2 due to the threat of flooding at high-voltage level. Almost the entire village was then without power. Subsequent switching measures in the medium and low voltage gradually connected the streets that were not affected by the rapidly rising flood water, according to Bayernwerk.
The company has refuted reports in the social media that an interruption of the supply in the entire district was or is under discussion. This is false. However, all households that are currently still without power will have to prepare for longer downtimes. As soon as the water recedes, Bayernwerk's service teams will be ready to repair damage to the infrastructure.
According to the utility company, forces from other regions of Bavaria are also currently being brought together in Pfaffenhofen.
According to initial assessments by Bayernwerk, the substation in Reichertshofen has been so badly damaged by the floods that it will have to be replaced. The company plans to erect a temporary solution as soon as the water recedes and is preparing for the subsequent construction of a new substation.
Number of faults decreasing
All in all, according to Bayernwerk, the number of faults is decreasing slightly. Up to 5,000 households have been without power since the night and in the morning. New faults would occur occasionally, but these could usually be resolved promptly by switching measures.
In addition to the main fault in the district of Pfaffenhofen, several circuits in the Kranzberg substation in the district of Freising had to be switched off, according to Bayernwerk. During the night of June 3, however, individual towns such as Paunzhausen and Kirchdorf an der Amper were supplied with electricity again. Further work to restore the supply had to be suspended for the time being due to the flooding situation at individual distribution stations. It was also reported that the town of Allershausen was also largely without power during the night.
According to the assessment of the Bayernwerk service groups on site and the state crisis organizations as well as the forecasts of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, the grid operator does not expect further flooding of substations such as in Reichertshofen as the flood situation develops. "The analysis focuses on the forecast water levels for today, mainly for the Danube and the tributaries close to the Danube. The exception is the Irsching substation. Preventive safety measures are being taken there due to the fears of local experts that a dam could break," said Bayernwerk.
150 emergency personnel at LEW
LEW Verteilnetz, based in Augsburg, reported the following status on the morning of June 3: "The interruptions to the power supply are currently focused on the district of Günzburg, especially Burgau, Offingen and Jettingen, as well as the district of Dillingen, in particular Wertingen. There are also local power outages in the medium-voltage grid in the district of Augsburg. There may also be outages within the local grids (low voltage) in individual streets and households.
According to LEW, around 150 emergency crews are currently working to restore the power supply and repair equipment.
"The power outages are concentrated along the rivers and are manageable from a grid perspective," explained Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) on the current situation. "As far as possible, the responsible distribution grid operators are trying to ensure the power supply by switching to other lines. We do not currently expect widespread power outages."
The grid operators are calling on all those affected by the flooding to take particular care in the vicinity of electrical installations and equipment such as junction boxes, distribution cabinets and meter systems, which can pose a danger, especially in basements. Flooded areas should therefore not be entered. The grid operator should also be informed if electrical systems in residential buildings are flooded.
