The expectations of the added value that can be generated by collecting and evaluating machine data are high in many industrial companies. However, this applies not only to the machine operator, but also to the machine manufacturer and its suppliers. In order to realize actual added value, for example through a cheaper design or more efficient operation of the machine, it is often necessary for these groups of players to cooperate and exchange machine data with each other when it comes to improvements, machine maintenance or troubleshooting.
The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) has published a guide to help potential business partners realize fair value creation from machine data for all involved. In addition to the selection of a suitable application scenario, the guide also includes an assessment of the availability and sensitivity of the required machine data, the building of trust between business partners, and a detailed evaluation of effort, benefit, and risk. In addition, the publication also includes an analysis tool in Excel format that companies can use as a tool for the necessary evaluations and assessments.
