€37 Million for Bavarian Institutions to Advance 6G Research
01.01.2026
Bavaria's role as a leader in 6G research has been strengthened by €37 million in funding for four Bavarian research institutions. This funding, provided jointly by the Free State of Bavaria and the German federal government, supports projects at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, and the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU).
The funding enables these Bavarian institutions to expand their work on key 6G technologies, including non-terrestrial networks, robotics, sensor systems, and industrial applications. Central to the initiative are four 6G Transfer Hubs, which will start operations on 1 January 2026 and are designed to accelerate the transfer of research results into industry.
By investing specifically in Bavarian excellence in 6G research, the Free State is reinforcing its long-term innovation strategy and ensuring that future mobile communication technologies are developed, tested, and applied in Bavaria.
