3D printing and additive manufacturing are often discussed in connection with current trends such as the mass individualization of goods, the decentralization of production, Industry 4.0 and on-demand manufacturing. Specific features of additive manufacturing such as manufacturing without the prior production of a mold, a very large freedom with regard to the possible component design as well as the cost-optimized production of individual components or small batches act as drivers for the aforementioned trends.
Welche Chancen bietet der 3D-Druck für neue Geschäftsmodelle?
These technological developments have the potential to change supply and value chains. This results in new opportunities for business model innovations - also for small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, against the backdrop of the role of additive manufacturing in sustainable production , the topic of decentralization is coming into focus. However, this requires further technological development with regard to process monitoring and quality assurance in additive manufacturing as well as secure data transfer. After all, with decentralized production, it must be possible to transfer the data records for the production of the components securely and in encrypted form.
The Interreg project ABH081 entitled "Evaluation and testing of new forms of cross-border cooperation with 3D printing" is dedicated to various issues against the background of these challenges.
