The European Commission is seeking views on how the rules on the labeling of textiles and related products should be revised. The aim is to provide clear information to consumers, promote recycling and upcycling processes and facilitate compliance by manufacturers.
Under the current Textile Labeling Regulation, the rules are limited to the fiber composition of textile products. As a result, other labels, such as care and size, are labeled differently in the Member States.
The ongoing consultation is particularly concerned with the question of how consumers can obtain all relevant information in an accurate and comparable manner. At the same time, the Commission wants to investigate how to make it easier for businesses to comply with the rules and how to ensure that the legislation is clear and consistent.
